Announcements in the March 15th, 2024 Issue of the Akashi Newsletter

The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the March 1st Issue

 Let’s Take the Bus to Go See Cherry Blossoms

There are lots of places in Akashi where you can see lovely cherry blossoms.  Let us introduce a few of those places that you can get to by bus.

(1)Ishigadani Park

This park is famous for its plum blossoms, but the cherry blossoms here are beautiful as well.  The cherry blossoms are at their most beautiful from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Getting There by 🚌:  From the north side of JR Okubo Station, it takes 10 minutes on the Shinki Bus.

Boarding the Bus:  Get on the “#6, Bound for Akashi Central Gymnasium” (6番 明石中央体育館行き) bus.

Getting off the Bus: Get off at the “Akashi Central Gymnasium” (明石中央体育館) stop.

(2)Kanagasaki Park

You can take a leisurely stroll while enjoying the cherry blossoms.  There are all kinds of birds to see here, too.  The cherry blossoms are at their most beautiful from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Getting There by 🚌:  From JR Uozumi Station’s north exit, take the Mini Octopus Bus (たこバスミニ).  It takes about 13 minutes.

Boarding the Bus:  Get on the “#8, Kanagasaki Route” (8番 金ケ崎ルート) bus.

Getting off the Bus: Get off at the “Kitaura” (北浦) stop.  From there, it is about a 5-minute walk north.

(3)Akashi Seaside Park

This is a spacious park with 600 cherry trees in bloom.  The blossoms are at their best from the end of March to the beginning of April.  In addition, the rhododendron flowers that bloom in this park are also quite famous.  The best time to see the rhododendrons is from the end of April to the beginning of May.

Getting There by 🚌:  From the south exit of JR Tsuchiyama Station, it takes about 24 minutes on the Sanyo Bus.

Boarding the Bus:  Get on the “#70, Artificial Island Loop” (70番 人工島内循環) bus.

Getting off the Bus: Get off at the “In Front of Seaside Pool” (海浜プール前) stop.  The park will be right in front of you.

(4)Yakushi-in Temple

You can see the lovely peony flowers at this temple from up close.  The peony flowers are at their best from mid to late April.

Getting There by 🚌:  From the south exit of JR Uozumi Station, take the Octopus Bus (たこバス).  It will take about 7 minutes.

Boarding the Bus:  Get on the “#12, Nishioka East Route” (12番 西岡東ルート) bus.

Getting off the Bus: Get off at the “Peony Temple Entrance” (ぼたん寺口) stop.  It will be about a 3-minute walk to the south.

(5)Sumiyoshi Shrine

Sumiyoshi Shrine is famous for its many beautiful hydrangeas.  They are at their most beautiful from the beginning to the middle of June.  Every year in the middle of June, they hold a “Hydrangea Festival” here. 

Getting There by 🚌:  From the south exit of JR Uozumi Station, take the Octopus Bus (たこバス).  It will take about 4 minutes.

Boarding the Bus:  Get on either the “#7, West Eigashima Route” (7番 西江井島ルート) bus or the “#12, Nishioka East Route” (12番 西岡東ルート) bus.

Getting off the Bus: Get off at the “Sanyo Uozumi Station” stop.  It will be about a 5-minute walk to the south.

★Come See Cherry Blossoms at Akashi Park

Akashi Park is a park on what used to be the grounds of Akashi Castle.  It’s very famous for the many cherry blossom trees that bloom here.  There are over 1,000 of them, and you can enjoy the lovely sight of the cherry blossoms alongside the ruins of the old castle.

Every year, the Japan Weather Association releases an announcement of when the cherry blossoms are expected to bloom across the country.  According to their announcement, the cherry blossoms in Akashi Park are expected to bloom starting from March 25th.

Notifications About Coronavirus Vaccinations

Free Coronavirus vaccinations will only be available until March 31st of 2024. 

To check and see who is eligible to get the vaccine, where to get the vaccine, and how to make a reservation, please check the Akashi City website.  (If you check the QR code on the right, you can look at the Coronavirus page.)   

  • If you are 12 years old or older and have not yet received your 1st and 2nd vaccinations, you can get them on the following days:
  • 2nd:  Saturday, March 30th, 2024, from 9:00 am.
  • From April of 2024, the process to get the Coronavirus vaccination is going to change.  Please check the Akashi City website to see what the new process will be.
  • The vaccinations will be given at the Akashi City Hospital.
  • The phone number to make a reservation is 0120-712-160.  They are available to call every day from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  • The following is information about the Akashi City Coronavirus phone number:
    • The phone number to consult with somebody about the Coronavirus is 0120-712-160.  Their fax number is 0120-655-695.
    • The number is available each day from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
