Beware of Illnesses Carried by Mosquitos

Mosquitos carry several different illnesses which they can pass on to people.  If you are bitten by a mosquito, you may end up getting sick.  Some of those mosquito-borne illnesses include dengue fever and the Zika virus.  It’s possible for these illnesses, especially Zika virus, to be transmitted from person to person as well.

Please take precautions so that you aren’t bitten by mosquitos.  Also try to reduce the number of mosquitos around you by eliminating conditions which cause them to increase.

Here are some precautions you can take to avoid being bitten:

  • When doing activities outdoors, try to cover up as much of your skin as possible.
  • Use mosquito repellant.  This is a chemical that will keep mosquitos away from you.

Here are some things you can do to reduce the number of mosquitos around you:

  • Mosquitos breed in pools of still water.  So be sure to clean up and eliminate any such pools or puddles.
  • Also be sure to get rid of any water that is collecting beneath any potted plants you might have.
  • Mosquitos like to hide in grassy spots.  Cut or trim down any grass near you so mosquitos will have less places to hide.
