Announcements in the September 1st , 2023 Issue of the Akashi Newsletter

The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the September 1st Issue

You Can Now Get the New Coronavirus Vaccine

Starting from September 20th, 2023, you can get the new Coronavirus vaccine.  This is a vaccine created for the “Omicron XBB1.5” Covid variant.

(1)Who Can Receive the New Vaccine

If the following three things all apply to you, then you are eligible to receive the new vaccine:

①  You are 12 years old or older.

②You have already received at least two Coronavirus vaccinations.

③It has been three months or more since you received your last Coronavirus vaccination.

(2) The Vaccination Ticket to Receive the New Vaccine

For anyone who has received a Coronavirus vaccination from May 8th to September 19th of this year, Akashi City will send out a new vaccination ticket (a ticket with 接種券, “vaccination ticket” written on it).  The new ticket will be orange in color.

For anyone else, you can use the light purple vaccination ticket that Akashi City sent you from April to July of this year. 

(3)Where You Can Receive the Vaccine

You can get the vaccine at the Akashi Public Health Center, as well as 110 different hospitals and clinics across the city.

(4) How to Make a Reservation

From September 11th, you can make a reservation to receive the new Coronavirus vaccine.  You can reserve using one of the following three methods:

①Call the hospital or clinic.

②Call 0120-227-710, the phone number for making a vaccine reservation.

③Use the QR code on the right to make a reservation.

The following phone numbers are for Coronavirus information in Akashi:

  • If you want to make a reservation to be vaccinated, please call 0120-227-710.
  • If you want to consult about Coronavirus-related issues, please call 0120-712-160.
  • Either of these are available to call from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
  • If you’re unable to talk over the telephone, please send a fax to 0120-655-695.

 There Will Be a Seminar Where You Can Learn About Noh Theater

Noh” is a traditional Japanese performing art.  The performers put on masks and wear beautiful kimonos.  They move and perform to the rhythm of a flute and other musical instruments.

In October, there will be a seminar called “How to Enjoy Noh.”  At this seminar, you will be able to learn all sorts of things about noh.

The seminar is free to join.  Anyone who is interested is welcome to participate!

Dates and Times:

The seminar will take place three times, but the contents of each seminar will be same.  The limit on participants for each seminar is 50 people.

  • Friday, October 6th from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at the ASPIA Akashi North Building, 7th floor, “With Akashi”
  • Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at the ASPIA Akashi North Building, 8th floor, “With Akashi”
  • Saturday, October 14th, from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at the ASPIA Akashi North Building, 8th floor, “With Akashi”

They will begin accepting applications starting on Wednesday, September 6th from 10:00 am.

Please write “How to Enjoy Noh Seminar” as well as the names of those who want to participate, your telephone number, and the date and time of the seminar you wish to join.

  • If too many people wish to participate, then the participants will be decided in order of when the applications were received.

On Saturday, October 21st, There Will be a Bonfire Noh Performance at Akashi Park

“Bonfire Noh” is a special kind of noh performance where the stage is illuminated by bonfires that surround it.  It is typically held in summer.

Date and Time:  Saturday, October 21st from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm.

Seating will begin from 4:30 pm.  The event will be cancelled if it rains.

Place:  Akashi Park, West Lawn Open Space

Cost:  There are two different types of seats (open and reserved seating) that you can get with different tickets.  Tickets are currently on sale, and you can buy them at the following places:

Akashi Civic Hall, Seibu Civic Hall, Akashi Arts and International Exchange Foundation (on the 7th floor of the Akashi ASPIA North Building), Akashi Information Center (Akashi Piole West Building), and Ticket PIA (The P-Code is 521-1118).

Tickets for reserved seats cost 5,000 yen.  For open seating, they cost 3,000 yen (and for children of high school age or younger, only 1,000 yen).

You can still buy the tickets on October 21st, the day of the performance.  For adult tickets, it will cost an additional 500 yen to buy them on the day of the performance.  However, for children of high school age or younger, the price will not change.

In other words, the reserved seats will cost 5,500 yen and the open seats will cost 3,500 yen (but still 1,000 yen for children of high school age or younger).
