The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.
Announcements in the October 15th Issue
There Will Be a Medical Examination for Children Starting Elementary School Next Year
Eligible children: All children who will start elementary school from April of 2026.
This medical examination will take place in November.
All families with eligible children will receive a notification letter (通知書, tsuuchisho) in the mail by October 31st. The notification letter will tell you which elementary school to go to for the medical examination. Please take the notification letter with you and go to the elementary school written in the letter. The notification letter will also tell you about the date and time of the medical examination. For more details, please look at the Akashi City Board of Education website.

Notification for Families with Children Who Will Start Elementary School or Junior High School in April of Next Year
For families who have trouble affording to send their child to school, the city can provide financial assistance. This program is called the “financial assistance for education.”
You may be able to receive this financial assistance to help your child get ready for school, if you have a child who will be entering elementary school or junior high school in Akashi next year.
①For children who will be starting elementary school in Akashi
Eligible families: Any families with children who were born from April 2nd, 2019 to April 1st, 2020. Before you can receive this financial support, the city will check your household income.
Amount of Payment: The payment is expected to be 57,060 yen.
How to Apply: The forms that you need to apply will be included with the notification letter (通知書, tsuuchisho) that you will get for the medical examination for children starting elementary school. This letter will be mailed to you. Please read the application documents carefully and apply by January 31st of next year.

② For children who will be starting junior high school in Akashi
Eligible families: Any families with children who are currently in their 6th year at elementary school and are already receiving “financial assistance for education” payments.
Amount of Payment: The payment is expected to be 63,000 yen.
How to Apply: If you are already receiving the financial support payments, you do not need to apply again. The school should send you a notification about the financial support payments. Please check the notification to make sure that the information in it is correct.
