When Riding a Bicycle, Both Children and Adults Should Wear a Helmet

Starting from April 1st, the rules for riding a bicycle have changed in Japan.  When riding a bicycle, everyone should now wear a helmet.  A helmet is a good way to protect your head from injuries in case you fall or are in an accident.  Please note that the new rule will not have any penalty if you fail to follow it.  Rather, it will be considered a “duty” that people will be asked to make an effort to follow.

Cyclist Accidents (Hyogo Prefecture, 2022)

The Boats in Akashi Park Can Be Used for a Cheaper Price

This special deal applies to children (18 or younger) living in Akashi, and it will be valid until March 31st of next year.  During that time, the boats in Akashi Park can be rented for a cheaper price.  Normally a ticket to use a boat costs 900 yen.  However, for children who are eligible for the deal, it will cost 620 yen.  Note that adults may also ride along with children who are eligible for the discounted price.

To rent a boat at the cheaper price, a “subsidy ticket”, called 助成券 (joseiken) in Japanese, is needed.  These tickets were made by Akashi City, and they are used to check that the boat is being used by one of the children covered by the special deal.   The tickets are available at the area of Akashi Park where boats can be rented.  Please write on the subsidy ticket the name and address of the child who will be using it.  Then go ahead and purchase a boat rental ticket for 620 yen.  This rental ticket is required to use the boats, and one ticket will allow you to rent one boat.  When you want to rent a boat, please give the employee in charge of boat rentals both the subsidy ticket and the boat rental ticket.

From April until October, boat rentals will be closed on Tuesdays.  However, if the Tuesday is a national holiday, then boat rentals will remain open.  From November until March, boat rentals will be closed on weekdays and only open on weekends.

Boats can be used from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm.  From April until October, boat rentals will be available from 10:00 until 5:00 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
