The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the June 1st Issue

There Will Be a Water Safety Class to Teach Children How to Stay Safe Around the Water

There will be a class that teaches children and their parents about how to avoid accidents and stay safe around the water.  Kids will be able to use the pool at the fire station to get actual experience in the water.  The class will be open for up to 20 children, and children from elementary school 4th graders to elementary school 6th graders are eligible to join.  Each participating child must be accompanied by an adult family member.

Date and Time:  Sunday, July 6th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. (the class will be cancelled if it rains).

Place:  Akashi City Fire Department  (Akashi City, Fujie 924-8)

Application:  Please use the QR code on the right to apply.  Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on July 2nd.  However, the class will be “first come, first served”, and only the first 20 children to apply will be able to join.

There Are “Cool Relaxation Spots” Where You Can Go to Avoid Heatstroke When You’re Away from Home

Coming down with heatstroke will make you feel sick, and can be very dangerous.  Akashi City has set up “Cool Relaxation Spots” called ひと涼みスポット (Hitosuzumi Spot) where you can go to relax, cool down, and avoid heatstroke.  There are 90 of these spots all over the city.  These Cool Relaxation Spots are cool and have seats for you to sit down.  They are free for anyone to use.

Time Period:  Cool Relaxation Spots will be available from June 1st until October 31st.

Place:  Cool Relaxation Spots are set up inside supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, and other places all over Akashi City.
