The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the March 1st Issue
Starting on April 1st, You Will Have to Pay a Fine If you Fail to Follow Cycling Safety Rules
Starting from April 1st, there will be fines if you break various bicycle riding safety rules. These fines will apply to all cyclists who are 16 years old or older. The amount of the fine will change depending on what rule was broken. You can see several examples below. (☆= the cost of the fine in yen)

①Riding a bicycle while using a smartphone or cell phone.
②Riding a bicycle while listening to music, etc. that prevents you from properly hearing what is going on around you.
➂Getting in the way of pedestrians while riding your bicycle.
④Not stopping for stop signs while riding your bicycle.
⑤Two people riding on one bicycle.
⑥Two or more people riding their bicycles side by side.

- Wear a helmet and save your life.
If you are in an accident while riding a bicycle, it’s possible that you can hit your head very hard. If you are properly wearing a helmet, the chances of you surviving hitting your head in an accident go up dramatically.
Check the picture below, and be sure to wear your helmet properly (as shown on the left).
Be careful about how the straps on your helmet fit on your head!

The Opening Hours for the Service Counters at Akashi City Hall Will be Changing!
- Why are the opening hours changing?
Because it is now easier to do applications and other procedures on the internet or at convenience stores instead of coming directly to the city hall.
- When will the opening hours change?
From Friday, May 1st of this year.
- What will the new opening hours be?
The new opening hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- What locations will change their opening hours?
The service counters at the city hall main building, west building, north building, and the parliament building (議会棟, gikaidou) will change to the new opening hours.
- What locations will not change their opening hours?
The Akashi Multi-Purpose Service Counter and the service counters at the civic centers and service corners will not change their opening hours.
