The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Announcements in the January 15th Issue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Double-Check to Be Sure You\u2019re Prepared for an Earthquake<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

31 years ago, on January 17th<\/sup>, 1995, there was a huge earthquake in Japan.  An earthquake can happen at any time, without warning.  Please prepare yourself so that you and your family can be safe in case an earthquake happens.  In addition, there is the possibility of a powerful earthquake called the \u201cNankai Trough Earthquake\u201d.  This earthquake is likely to occur at some point beneath the sea south of Japan.  That\u2019s why it\u2019s even more important to be prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u3000\u3000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25a0\u3000Check the inside of your home to make sure everything is safe and secure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25e6 \u3000Don\u2019t put anything near your bed or the exit to your room that can fall over easily.
\u25e6 \u3000Use metal fittings (\u91d1\u5177, kanagu) or tension rods (\u7a81\u3063\u5f35\u308a\u68d2, tsupparibou) to secure your furniture so it won\u2019t fall down during an earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25a0\u3000Prepare supplies and important things in advance to make life easier in case of an earthquake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep these things ready in case you need them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25e6 \u3000Prepare emergency supplies, such as drinking water, food, a flashlight, a portable toilet, etc.
\u25e6 \u3000Keep ready to bring with you the important things you need if you must evacuate suddenly during an earthquake. For example, things like money, your driver\u2019s license, your residence card, your medication record book, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u25a0\u3000Check the Hazard Map and think about what to do if you need to evacuate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25e6\u3000 Be sure to talk with your family and confirm the route to get to the nearest evacuation area. Also talk about how to contact each other in case you are in separate places when an earthquake happens.

\u25e6 \u3000By registering at \u201cDisaster Prevention Net Akashi\u201d (\u9632\u707d\u30cd\u30c3\u30c8\u3042\u304b\u3057, bousai netto Akashi), you can check the latest earthquake information, as well as other important info.
\u25e6\u3000 You can register using the QR code on the right.
\u25e6\u3000Click the \u201cSimple Registration\u201d (\u304b\u3093\u305f\u3093\u767b\u9332, kantan touroku) link and it will let you send an e-mail to akashi@bosai.net. You don\u2019t need to write anything in the e-mail. After you send a blank e-mail, then you will get an e-mail in return. Read the contents of the e-mail and follow its instructions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
