The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Garbage disposal rules are changing
Starting March 1, 2027, when you put out burnable waste, you must use the bag designated by Akashi City (called the “designated garbage bag”).
The purpose of using the designated garbage bag is to encourage everyone to follow the rules more carefully when putting out waste.
The colors of the bags used for cans, bottles, PET bottles, and non-burnable waste will also change.
From September 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027, there will be a preparation period to help everyone get used to using the designated garbage bag.
From March 1 next year, please use the new bag when putting out burnable waste.
Until February next year, you may continue using the same bags you have been using for burnable waste.
Please use all of your current blue garbage bags by February 28, 2027.

● Starting in September, designated garbage bags will be available for purchase at supermarkets, home improvement stores, and drugstores in Akashi City. (Prices vary depending on the store.)
●From March 1, 2027, please follow these rules:
① When putting out burnable waste, use the designated garbage bag.
② When putting out cans, bottles, and PET bottles, use a transparent or semi-transparent bag.
・A transparent bag allows you to clearly see what is inside.
・A semi-transparent bag allows you to see the contents faintly.
➂ When putting out non-burnable waste, continue using the same transparent or semi-transparent bags as before.
Blue garbage bags will no longer be allowed from March next year.
White bags or other bags whose contents cannot be seen from the outside may not be used.

Put out waste by 8:00 a.m. on the designated day.
●How to use garbage bags
〇 You may use a small inner bag (a bag placed inside the main bag) even if it is not transparent.
Use inner bags only for items you do not want others to see.
× It is prohibited if the inner bag prevents all waste from being visible.
× From March 1 next year, you may not put out waste in opaque white or blue bags.
(They may still be used as inner bags.)
× Do not put out waste in cardboard boxes or rice bags.
*Akashi City will not collect waste that is not put out according to the rules.

Applications for children who wish to use the After-School Kids’ Club during winter break
The After-School Kids’ Club is a place where children can spend time safely after elementary school classes finish. Every elementary school in Akashi City has an After-School Kids’ Club. Children may use only the club at the school they attend.
Applications are now open for children who wish to use the club during this year’s winter break.
Eligibility: Elementary school children whose parents are not at home during the daytime due to work, etc.
Period: December 21 to January 9 next year
*Closed on Sundays, national holidays, and from December 29 to January 3.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
*If desired, children may use the club from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (On Saturdays, until 5:00 p.m.)
If you wish to use the club, please apply between October 1 and October 9.

If there are many applicants, some children may not be able to use the club. You will be notified by mail by early November whether your child can use the club.

Please cooperate in saving water
This year, the rainy season ended earlier than usual, and there has been little rainfall. As a result, the water supply is running low.
If the water supply decreases further, water may stop coming out of the tap. Please be more careful than usual to save water.
Ways to save water at home
• Do not let water run unnecessarily from the tap.
• Wash vegetables and dishes using stored water.
• Do laundry in one combined load.
• Reuse bathwater for laundry or other purposes.

Announcement: Public Relations Survey with a Prize
A survey is a way to ask many people the same questions and hear their opinions.
Akashi City will conduct a survey to hear everyone’s opinions.
Only people who live in Akashi City may answer the survey.
Every month, Akashi Newsletter includes a QR code for answering the survey.
If you answer the survey, you may receive a prize through a lottery.
People selected in the lottery will receive an email and a voucher from Akashi City. A voucher can be exchanged for goods or services.
The prize changes every month.
This month’s prize is a macaron on a stick (Four Seasons) from the shop “Iroha no Oto.” You may choose one macaron from four types.
Ten people will win a voucher.
