The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the October 1st Issue

The “After-School Children’s Club” is Accepting Applications for Children Who Want to Make Use of It Starting from April of 2025

The After-School Children’s Club is a safe and welcoming place where elementary school children can spend their time after school.  There is an “After-School Children’s Club (放課後児童クラブ, houkago jidou kurabu) at every elementary school in Akashi City.  However, children are only able to the use the After-School Children’s Club at the same school where they are enrolled as a student.  Right now, the After-School Children’s Clubs in Akashi are awaiting applications for students who want to make use of them for the period of time starting from April of 2025.

Eligible Children:  Any elementary school student whose parents are not at home during the day (due to work or other reasons).

Dates:  From April 1st of 2025 to March 31st of 2026.

* Holidays:  The After-School Children’s Club will be closed on Sundays, national holidays, and from August 13th to August 15th of 2025, as well as from December 29th of 2025 to January 3rd of 2026.

Time:  On days when there are classes at school, children can use the Club from the time when classes end until 5:00 p.m.

On days when there are no classes at school, the Club is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

* If you need it, it is possible for your child to use the club for extended hours from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.  (However, on Saturdays the club will not be able to stay open later, and will end at 5:00 regardless).

If you want to use the club, please apply to the “After-School Children’s Club” from November 1st until November 22nd.

If you would like more information, please read the “Application Guidelines” (募集要項, boshuu youkou).  You can receive the “Application Guidelines” at various different places in Akashi, including at daycare centers, kindergartens, the Akashi Multi-Purpose Service Counter (あかし総合窓口, Akashi Sougou Madoguchi) , or the Citizen’s Center (市民センター, Shimin Sentaa).

If too many people apply for the club, then it may not be possible for everyone to join.  You will be notified by mail by February 28th about whether or not your child will be able to participate in the After-School Children’s Club.
