The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the November 1st Issue
From December 2nd, Please Use the “My Number” Health Insurance Card
Starting from December 2nd, you will no longer be able to renew the regular paper version of your health insurance card. Please try to use your My Number card as your health insurance card instead. Any paper health insurance cards issued before December 1st can still be used. If you check the date written on the card, you can see the date when your current health insurance card will expire.
You will have to register before you can use your My Number health insurance card for the first time. You can register at various clinics and pharmacies. There are also other ways to register.
For those people who do not have a My Number card, documents that can be used instead of your health insurance card will be sent to you before your current card expires.

Recycle Your Toothbrush When You’re Finished Using It
Akashi City has started a program to recycle used toothbrushes. This program is a partnership between Akashi and the Lion Corporation, a company that has a factory in Akashi. It will start from November 1st. Please do your part to help them collect used toothbrushes!

Here is a translation of the image above:
Step 1: Wash the toothbrush that you won’t be using anymore.
Step 2: Put it in the Collection Box (回収BOX) for recycling.
Step 3: Your old toothbrush will be turned into new plastic products!
- This program is for toothbrushes that you are finished using and were planning to throw away. Instead of putting them in the trash, you can recycle them! Even a toothbrush that you use for cleaning around the house can be washed and put in the Collection Box.
However, please be aware that electric toothbrushes cannot be recycled, so please don’t put them in the Collection Box. Also, interdental toothbrushes (toothbrushes that clean between your teeth, like flossing brushes) cannot be put in the Collection Box either.
Collection Boxes for recycling your toothbrushes are located in the following places:
- Akashi City Hall
- With Akashi
- Akashi Multi-Purpose Service Counter
- Akashi Public Library
- Akashi Public Health Center
- Okubo Civic Center
- Akashi Clean Center
- Takaoka Central Meeting Hall
- Eigashima Service Corner
- Uozumi Civic Center
