Check and Be Certain That You’re Prepared for an Earthquake
1. Check and Be Certain That You’re Prepared for an Earthquake
There’s no way of knowing when an earthquake might happen. Are you prepared so that you and your family can stay safe if an earthquake happens? Please check the following points and make sure:
1. Is your bedroom safe? How about the entryway to your home?
One of the big dangers in an earthquake is furniture falling over. It may hurt somebody, start a fire, or prevent you from quickly exiting the room. The two places in your home that you want to be especially certain are safe are your bedroom and the entryway. There are special fixtures or items you can get that will help prevent your furniture from falling over, so be sure to make use of those.
After an earthquake, the floor is often covered in pieces of broken glass. Be sure to keep slippers or some other footwear in your bedroom so that you can put them on and walk around more safely in the event of an earthquake.
2. Do you have at least three days’ worth of food, water, and other necessary items?
- Water: An adult needs 3 liters of water per day. You should prepare 9 liters of water so that you have enough for 3 days.
- Food: Good options are preserved and long-lasting foods such as rice, canned foods, cup noodles, “retort” curry (curry in a bag), snacks, etc.
- A portable gas stove and canisters of gas
- A flashlight and batteries
- A portable battery charger
- A portable toilet
- Toilet paper
- Plastic wrap and aluminum foil (normally these are used for food, but you can also use them to wrap around somebody’s body along with towels or newspapers if they are injured or cold)

3. Do you know how to find out necessary information? Have you confirmed how to contact your family in case of an emergency?
It’s very important to stay updated with accurate information in case of an earthquake. Also, so you don’t have to worry about their safety, be sure to talk with your family about how to contact each other in case of an emergency.
