The Akashi Newsletter (Koho Akashi) is a newsletter published by Akashi City. It releases on the 1st and the 15th of each month. There are many announcements in each issue of the Akashi Newsletter. We have selected five of the most important or useful announcements and translated them into English.

Announcements in the October 15th Issue
There Will Be a “Health Check” for Children Entering Elementary School
A health check will be provided for children entering elementary school in April of next year. This check will be a way to make sure that your child is physically healthy. A “notification letter” will be sent to all eligible families (families with a child about to enter elementary school) by October 31st, 2022. This notification letter is a required form that you must bring to receive the health check. The date and location of the health check will be written in the notification letter.

Money Will Be Provided to Support Children Entering Elementary School or Junior High School in April of Next Year
There is a support system in place to help families who have financial difficulties that make it hard for them to send their children to school. For those children who will begin school next year, some money can be provided to help a little with buying school supplies or paying for school lunches. The money will be given out before school begins so the parents can buy things to prepare for school.
This system is called “financial assistance for education.” Families that meet the criteria for either ○1 or ○2 below can receive this assistance.
○1 A family with a child who will enter elementary school in Akashi in April of next year. Eligible children are those who were born from April 2nd, 2016 until April 1st, 2017.
*There will be a check performed to determine the family income.
The amount of the financial assistance is 54,060 yen. The amount of money may change slightly. Before the child begins school, documents about what to do for the beginning of the school year will be sent by mail. Please read over the documents and check the contents carefully, then make an application to the following:

○2 A family with a child who will enter junior high school in Akashi in April of next year. Eligible children are those who are currently receiving financial assistance for 6th grade of elementary school. The amount of the financial assistance is 60,000 yen. The amount of money may change slightly. There is no need to make any additional application.

Notifications about the Coronavirus Vaccine
This is a notification about the vaccine for the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.
- People who can receive the Omicron vaccine
Anyone who is over 12 years old and received the 1st and 2nd vaccinations over 5 months ago is eligible to get the Omicron vaccination.
(In order for children aged 12 to 15 years old to be vaccinated, they need permission from their parent or guardian. In addition, a parent or guardian must be present when they receive the vaccination.)
2.Vaccines that will be used
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for the Omicron variant will be used. For those aged 12 to 17, the Pfizer vaccine will be used. For those aged 18 or older, the Moderna vaccine will be used.
*There are two types of Omicron vaccines, a BA.1 and a BA.4/BA.5 type. Anyone who has already received the BA.1 vaccine is not able to receive the BA.4/BA.5 vaccine.
3. Ticket to receive vaccination
1) For anyone who has a ticket to get their 3rd or 4th vaccination, please use that ticket.
2) For those who have already received their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th vaccination and no longer have a ticket, Akashi City will send you another ticket. It may take a little while, but please wait for your ticket to arrive.
3) If you have lost your ticket, or you have just moved to Akashi, then please call 0120-712-160 and apply for a ticket.
4. How to make a reservation
To make a reservation over the phone, please call 0120-227-710. Phone reservations are open every day from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
